About Harriet

I received a BA in Fine Arts from the University of the South in 2000. It was there that my love of portraiture began. After school I became an Early Childhood educator and was able to incorporate my love of the arts into my classroom. As a mother I I continued to draw and paint portraits in my free time.

When covid hit and the world shut down I decided to try a new medium. I knew that I could draw people, but could I represent them only using bits and pieces of magazine clippings? Colors that up close looked quite abstract, however when standing back encompassed the person perfectly. I began with my own children, which then led to commissioned custom portraits of children and families. When I was not working on these commissioned portraits I began creating images of musicians which I admired.

Creating their likeness with various sized clippings from magazines, ranging in size from a couple of inches, to pieces so small that I must use tweezers to position them. Hidden throughout the works are clipping of words and sentences that represent the artist. My portraits are playful and lively and energetic, created solely from magazine clippings which have been fixed to canvas.
